5/30/2023 2:15:19 AM - Well, it seems like the year flew by! The fall semester at the U of Manitoba certainly did. I had a few trips for gigs and recordings in NYC and San Francisco in the fall. I finished up my teaching last week in Winnipeg, and flew to NYC to play the Jazz Nativity Friday Dec. 6th. This year we had Houston Person and Joe Magnarelli as new Kings, along with Candido, Art Baron, Tim Horner, Pete McGuinness and a lot of great friend and players. Always a pleasure! On Saturday I led a quartet at The Kitano with Bryn Roberts, Matt Clohesy and Mark Ferber. Again, great musicians and friends. We really had a fun night! A couple of my former students came by and sat in, really a joy to watch them grow! On Dec. 17th I'll be doing a presentation with the IAWA (Irish American Artists and Writers group). I'll probably play some and read some excerpts of my new book I'm working on, on jazz musicians. Then on the 20th I'll be doing our annual Party with Max Weinberg for the Police Benevolent Society, run by Steven Van Zant. I'll also be playing at Birdland next weekend on the 15th with Ken Peplowski. I'll also be seeing my sons, other family and friends, and having my annual holiday party. Next year I'm looking forward to finishing and publshing my new book, tentatively called, "Jazz Lives", as well as putting together a new nonet recording. Thanks for checking in, look forward to seeing you at a club soon! |
